Commercial Modern Music (Programme Code: DT506)

A newly approved Level 8 programme at DIT titled: Commercial Modern Music (Programme Code: DT506) – it's the first of its kind in the country! The BA (Hons) includes a mixture of classroom study, live performance and specialist workshops from BIMM's studios and lecture rooms, equipped with a choice of vintage and state-of-the-art music gear in The BIMM Dublin building located in the city centre. The programme will be delivered by active professional tutors, all of whom have a variety of touring, performing and session experience, and a background in the professional music industry.Applicants interested in applying for DT506 must do so through the CAO, the deadline of which has been extended to 1st May. Shave or Dye

Shave or dye on Monday 22nd to Thursday 25th Feb, block B rooms 101,103,104, the hairdressing students will be available to carry out any colouring or cutting service whether its pink, blonde, blue or brown!! Mohicans, short, back and sides all available to male and female clients. All we ask in return is a donation to charity either on the day or via the web on http://www.mycharity.ie/event/cavan_institute/.
Please note some colours may require a skin test 24/48 hrs prior to the service.
Staff are also welcome male and female!!! If you dare, if not a blowdry, trim and donation will work too!!!!

Lunchtime Concert

The PAM class are again performing another thrilling lunch time gig. We will be performing on the 11th of February Room 206 Block C at 1:00PM (I.E) This Thursday. It will be a great hour of musical enjoyment. All acts playing will be listed in the program which will be handed out on the day. All are welcome.

Student ID Cards

PAM Performance

The past few months have been busy for the Music students in Cavan Institute. The students have had a number of gigs in the college canteen including a performance at the Fun Day in December.

Annual Prayer Service

The annual prayer service will take place on Friday next, 11th December 2009 at 10:45 in St Phelims, Cathedral, Cavan.

Rev Ken Clarke, Bishop of Kilmore will preside over the Service. Also in attendance will be Bishop Leo O’Reilly, Bishop of Kilmore, Rev Mark Lidwell and our Chaplin, Fr Gerry Comiskey.

The Prayer Service will be an opportunity for us all to reflect and remember recently deceased students, staff and other friends and family members.
Remembrance Tree
A remembrance tree has been placed in the Canteen in Block A. Students and staff are encouraged to take one piece of paper each and write the names of deceased relatives and friends and hang it up on the tree before next Thursday evening.

The tree will be brought to the prayer service.
Families and friends of recently deceased students and staff have been invited to the service and to show our support for them at this difficult time, a large attendance at the service would be greatly appreciated.

Health Centre

The new Health Centre is up and running and Dr. Thomas Prior and Dr. Mairead Beirne are available to see students on Tuesdays from 3.00 pm - 5.00 pm and on Thursdays from 12.30 pm - 2.30 pm. No appointment is necessary at the moment but this may change depending on demand. The Health Promotion team also operate from the Centre.

Athlone IT and NI Maynooth

Owen Kivney from Athlone Institute of Technology will be visiting Cavan Institute this Friday, 20th November 2009 to speak to the students about further education opportunities available at Athlone IT for next year.

In addition Magaret Madden from NUI Maynooth will be visiting on Monday, 23rd November 2009 to speak to the students about NUI Maynooth. There will also be a Mature Students Advisor with her, Emer who will conduct a further short session for any interested Mature Students after the main session.

New Studio Security Procedures

o The studio will be opened in the morning by the caretaker

o Students should book time in the studio using the booking sheet. A student can book up to 4 weeks in advance

o Students must request the cabinet key when they want to use microphones and drums. The equipment must be returned correctly to the cabinet after use and the cabinet locked. The cabinet contains 8 XLR cables, 2 guitar leads, microphones and drum kit parts (the bass drum and cymbal stands are not stored in the cabinet)

o Students can request the key from the following tutors:

• Monday – Evin

• Tuesday – Ciara

• Wednesday – Paul

• Thursday – Daire

• Friday – Daire

o The studio will be closed by a music tutor after checking that all equipment is put away and the studio is left clean and tidy. The following is a list of the tutors that will close the studio:

• Wednesday 4pm – Ciara

• Thursday 5pm – Daire

• Friday 5pm – Daire

Studio Rules

o Chairs must be stacked at the end of each class

Drama and Music Performance

Drama class along with Sue and Daire's music students will be doing a short music and drama performance in Block B at 2pm on Wednesday 28th January. It will be on the ground floor in the student common room. They have been out in some of the secondary schools with this performance and the reaction has been really great.

A short note to let you know that the students on the Perfroming Arts Theatre course will be staging their first performance in the canteen in the Cathedral road campus, on Thursday 23rd October at 1.05pm. It is a short piece which should run to about 10minutes.
