Trinity College Dublin

Clodagh Byrne from Trinity College, Dublin, will be visiting on Thursday 3rd December 2009 to speak to the students about Trinity.

This session will take place as follows:

Sligo Institute of Technology

Darragh McGoldrick from Sligo Institute of Technology will be visiting Cavan Institute tomorrow Tuesday 1st December 2009 to speak to the students about further education opportunities available at Sligo IT for next year.

Elections for 2 Student Representatives

Elections for two student representatives on the Board of Management of Cavan Institute will take place on Thursday 3rd December 2009.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the Administration Office, Cathedral Rd.

Completed nomination forms must be submitted to the Administration Office before 4:00pm on Thursday 26th November 2009.

Please note that nominations received after this date will not be accepted.

Marie Keating Foundation

The Marie Keating Foundation will be in the Institute on Thursday 19th Nov. There will be three talks with the first from 11-30am to 12noon for Females, 12noon to 12-30pm for Males and 1-30pm to 2pm for Females. The Marie Keating bus will be parked in the main car park A Block from 2pm to 3pm for anybody that wants to talk to them in confidence.

Musical Tickets Only €5

As a concession, to students in the Institute - Ticket pricing for Musical for TUESDAY ONLY will be €5 for students.

Prayer Service

A short meeting will take place tomorrow 18/11/09 at 1:00pm in Room B102 (Block B) to prepare for the Prayer Service.
Fr Gerry has requested that at least one student from each class would be represented at this meeting.
Would Class Tutors please inform Class Reps and Assistant Class reps about this meeting.
If Class reps cannot attend, please ask Reps to nominate someone else from their Class.

Athlone IT and NI Maynooth

Owen Kivney from Athlone Institute of Technology will be visiting Cavan Institute this Friday, 20th November 2009 to speak to the students about further education opportunities available at Athlone IT for next year.

The session will take place as follows: 10am-11am Room A201

In addition Magaret Madden from NUI Maynooth will be visiting on Monday, 23rd November 2009 to speak to the students about NUI Maynooth. There will also be a Mature Students Advisor with her, Emer who will conduct a further short session for any interested Mature Students after the main session.

This session will take place as follows: 3pm-4pm Room A202

UCAS and CAO

The Career Guidance Office will be conducting weekly workshops to offer students guidance and advice as to how to complete their UCAS and CAO Application forms. These will take place as follows:

CAO Applications: Wednesdays 11am-12pm Room A221

Thursdays 3pm-4pm Room A220

UCAS Applications: Wednesdays 1pm-2pm Room A221

Thursdays 12pm-1pm ROom B401


We would be most grateful if you could inform your students about these workshops and also to keep an eye on the notice boards for any further information.

New Studio Security Procedures

o The studio will be opened in the morning by the caretaker

o Students should book time in the studio using the booking sheet. A student can book up to 4 weeks in advance

o Students must request the cabinet key when they want to use microphones and drums. The equipment must be returned correctly to the cabinet after use and the cabinet locked. The cabinet contains 8 XLR cables, 2 guitar leads, microphones and drum kit parts (the bass drum and cymbal stands are not stored in the cabinet)

o Students can request the key from the following tutors:

• Monday – Evin

• Tuesday – Ciara

• Wednesday – Paul

• Thursday – Daire

• Friday – Daire

o The studio will be closed by a music tutor after checking that all equipment is put away and the studio is left clean and tidy. The following is a list of the tutors that will close the studio:

• Monday 4pm – Evin

• Tuesday 5pm – Paul

• Wednesday 4pm – Ciara

• Thursday 5pm – Daire

• Friday 5pm – Daire

Studio Rules

Attention



o No food or drink allowed in the studio

o Chairs must be stacked at the end of each class

o All equipment must be returned to its correct place

o No studio equipment must be removed from the premises

o Broken or damaged equipment must be reported to a tutor immediately

o Students are not allowed to take it upon themselves to rewire the studio in any way (NO special circumstances)

o When finished turn off the power to all equipment

o Leave the studio area clean and tidy
